Do not discourage children from reading because you feel they are reading the wrong thing. Fiction you do not like is a route to other books you may prefer. And not everyone has the same taste as you.

Very true! My one son hated reading and they tried to out him in remedial reading until I informed them that he had read the entire Harry potter series over the summer. Harry potter was way above his grades reading level at the time. It was one of the biggest issues. He hated the in school reading assignments but when he enjoyed something, he excelled :)
